Let's start this checkup of the present perfect continuous tense.
There's a lot to do, so let's get started.
In this checkup, we will talk about the present perfect continuous tense.
This tense can be used to describe an event
that started in the past and continues in the present.
βHe has _blank_ all week,β
For this tense, what we do is we first look at the subject, βheβ.
For βheβ, βsheβ and βitβ, we put βhasβ.
Then, we add βbeenβ. βhas beenβ.
Finally we add β-ingβ to the end.
βHe has been sleeping all week.β
The next sentence says, βYou haven't _blank_ for a year.β
Now, this is the negative form.
So you see the contraction - βhaven'tβ.
βYou have notβ or βYou haven'tβ.
Again, what we do after that is add βbeenβ.
Then, do you remember what to do?
βYou haven't been traveling for a year.β
Next, it says βThey _blank_ working all day.β
So the verb β-ingβ has already been provided for you.
Now, take a look at the subject.
Should we use βhaveβ? or should we use βhasβ?
The correct answer is βhaveβ.
βThey have been working all day.β
Now if you want to make this negative, you can say,
βThey haven't been working all day.β
Now find the mistake in the next sentence.
βMy friends have been watch TV.β
βMy friends have been watch TV.β
Remember, we need to add β-ingβ to the end of the verb.
βMy friends have been watching TV.β
Next, βSal did talking for 10 minutes.β
Hmm..
And βtalkingβ is already there for you.
So what's in the middle of those two words is the mistake.
For βheβ, we use βhasβ.
βSal has been talking for 10 minutes.β
βHe has been to eat for an hour.β
Hmm..
βHe has beenβ That's correct.
However, in this sentence, the base form of the verb βeatβ was used.
Instead, remember we need β-ingβ.
βHe has been eating for an hour.β
All right, good job. and let's move on to the next practice.
In this practice, we'll take a look at the present perfect continuous tense,
And see how it expresses an action that has been happening recently or lately.
Let's take a look at the first sentence.
βShe has _blank_ bad lately.β
Remember for βsheβ, we use βhasβ.
Then don't forget we need to have βbeenβ.
After that, we add β-ingβ to the verb.
βShe has been feeling bad lately.β
βWe haven't _blank_ much recently.β
So we say, βWe have notβ or the contraction - βhaven'tβ.
βWe haven'tβ Don't forget βbeenβ, and then verb β-ingβ.
βWe haven't been cooking much recently.β
Finally, we move on, let's try to find the mistake.
βWe has been riding bikes to school recently.β
What's the mistake in this sentence?
For βIβ, βyouβ, βweβ and βtheyβ, we have to say βhave beenβ, not βhas beenβ.
βWe have been riding bikes to school recently.β
βJenny lately hasn't been helping me.β
The lately is placed wrong in this sentence.
βLately, Jenny hasn't been helping me.β
βJenny hasn't been helping me lately.β
Let's move on to the next checkup.
In this checkup, we'll talk about the present perfect continuous tense
and how it expresses an action that stopped recently
βI _blank_ . That's why I'm so sweaty.β
The verb here is βexerciseβ. And the subject is βIβ.
Do we use βhasβ or βhaveβ for the subject βIβ?
The correct answer is βhaveβ.
Then, we put βbeenβ and then verb β-ingβ.
Okay, so the correct answer is,
βI have been exercising.
βI'm covered in flour because I _blank_.β
I have βI'm covered in flour becauseβ
So this first part is the result.
I need to show the action that stopped recently in the present perfect continuous tense.
Again, the subject is βIβ.
Then, all we do is add β-ingβ to the end of baking.
βI'm covered in flour because I have been baking.β
And we can use the contraction and say,
Now, find the mistake in the next sentence.
βShe has think a lot, so she has a headache.β
The result is that βshe has a headache.β
So we need to use the present perfect continuous for the first part.
Also don't forget that we need to add β-ingβ to the verb.
βShe has been thinking a lot, so she has a headache.β
Look at the next sentence and find the mistake.
βI'm so hungry because I have been diet.β
The only mistake here is that someone forgot to put the β-ingβ at the end of the verb, βdietβ.
βI'm so hungry because I have been dieting.β
