How To Pronounce LOW & LAW

Today, we are going to learn about the difference

in American pronunciation

between the words “low” and “law.”

The first word “low” is an adjective which means

below average or the opposite of high.

The second word “law” is a noun which means a rule made by a government.

The difference between the two words

lies in their vowel sounds.

The first word “low” has this “oʊ” sound after the L sound

while “law” contains this “ɑː” sound.

To make that L sound,

your tongue has to push up against the back of your upper front teeth

like this.
